Common Questions

Does Monticello Granite seal the countertops before they are installed in the residence?

The slabs are resonated and sealed overseas by the (brokers/quarries) prior to being shipped to Monticello’s factory.  Once the slabs arrive and the tops are fabricated, Monticello Granite reseals each individual top with six coats of industrial sealer.

Do I need to reseal my countertop to keep my warranty valid?

Resealing is not required to keep the warranty valid.  If you have a lightly colored counter top more maintenance is going to be needed, whereas a darker colored top would need little to no maintenance.  We recommend that more lightly colored counters be sealed at least once a year to keep from staining.  All colors need to be properly maintained simply so the original sealer is not eaten away by any abrasive substances. If the stone surface is not properly maintained an annual sealer should be applied to protect the porous surface.  To obtain a sealer(link) or cleanser(link) visit our online store(link).

For the Monticello Granite, Ltd warranty to be valid, the countertops must be cared for in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Monticello Granite, Ltd. Countertop Care & Maintenance Guidebook(link).

Can I scratch or burn the surface of my granite countertop?

Granite is one of the strongest substance on earth.  The only household item that would be strong enough to scratch the surface of your countertop would be a diamond ring.  As long as your not cutting with a diamond studded carving knife no cutting board should be necessary.  Granite is completely impervious to heat.  Temperatures would have to reach 700 to 900 degrees Celsius to alter it’s surface; which is physically impossible to reach in an everyday life setting.

What are the different ways that I can view colors?

Colors can be viewed 3 ways.
  1. Via our photo gallery(link).
  2. By filling out a slab photo request form(link).

  3. Visiting Monticello Granite directly to view slabs onsite. Monticello Granite permits our clients to tag slabs for their counters directly from our slab yard.  This can only be done once the template has been scheduled.  A 50% deposit is required for any and all slabs tagged prior to having a scheduled template date.
