Templating:
A Monticello template technician will visit your home and create a template that they will bring back to the factory and use to cut the stone.
Templates for natural stone used to be from plywood but now they are made simply with the click of a digital instrument called a digitizer. The digitizer is an articulating arm that is attached to a laptop computer. The template technician uses the arm to trace the exact image and sizes of the project. The computer is equipped with CAD software that can be automatically downloaded to the machinery in the factory. This digital instrumentation is so accurate that the stone will fit like a glove no matter where it is installed.
The template will also make sure to note the cabinet base where the sink will be located and all other details concerning the plumbing fixtures and accessories. It is important to have these chosen before they come out to your home. You also want to make sure that if you have an island top that you know what shape or which overhang you have in mind. Try to be as prepared as possible to save yourself time on the whole process.
Installation:
If you have are in the process of new construction, countertop removal is not necessary but if the project is a remodel then it will be. Before the new countertop can be installed, the old one needs to be removed. Monticello can remove your old countertop but must be notified prior to the installation and additional fee could apply (check for specials).
Bringing a piece of granite countertop into the house is no easy feat, since a typical slab weighs about 600 pounds. Once the slab is in place, it takes a team of skilled craftsmen to do the final trimming and fitting. The new sink is mounted underneath the new countertop, and is clamped in place until it can be permanently attached. Holes are drilled for faucets and/or soap dispensers and the back splash is slipped into place.
What began as a massive slab in the yard will be transformed into a stunning countertop, expertly installed by Monticello.
